Almost MidWeek Review

By J.R., 31 August, 2010, No Comment
  • Great to see 18 people accept Christ this weekend at Freedom!
  • We have been praying for one of those men in particular for quite some time.
  • He actually brought his sister – who hasn’t been to church in 20-ish years – she accepted Christ as well!
  • Life-change happens consistently when we do our part to bring people with us to church.  Keep it up!
  • We are praying through several exciting opportunities in the days ahead.  Please pray with us!
  • I am way behind with blog entries lately.  I like to stay way ahead; however, that is not the case right now.  That will change very soon.
  • I wore a tie two days in a row this weekend.
  • Absolutely loved the _ _ _ It happens Series we just completed.  It was all about Grace.  No matter where you are on the journey – you never graduate past grace.
  • We are kicking off an important new series in a couple weeks entitled “Give Me Freedom.”  Can’t wait!

MidWeek Review

By J.R., 26 August, 2010, No Comment
  • We had a great day on Sunday at Freedom Church!
  • Had the privilege to speak for my friend Michael at Oak Leaf Church on Sunday night for their Leadership Summit.  Great time with great people.
  • London turns five this week.  She’s in Kindergarten and thinks she is 14.
  • Only about 6 more weeks until Devin and I go on our 10 Year Anniversary trip.  Counting down the days.
  • We are working on a few things behind the scenes at Freedom that are going to take a miracle to pull off.  Praying Sun Stand Still type prayers every day.  Join with me!
  • Very excited about this coming week and then the following series entitled Give Me Freedom.  This one is a game-changer.
  • See you Sunday!

The Right People

By J.R., 24 August, 2010, No Comment

I sat down to write this blog post and had a strange sense of Deja-vu.  As a result, I looked back at my favorite blog posts and saw the reason why.  What I was going to write had already been written much better than I would have written it.  As a result, I leave you with this from my friend Tony Morgan ::

If you’re the “complete the right task”-type of leader, you better be real smart. You’ll need to know how to do everything. Then you’ll have to make sure your subordinates know how to do it too. You’ll be the one that has to come up with all the ideas. You’ll be the person that is responsible for policing the troops to make sure they’re staying in line. Ironically, if something goes wrong, you’ll probably blame it on people.

If you’re the “find the right people”-type, you are constantly trying to build the right team and then get out of the way. When you have talented people around you, you don’t need to know all the answers. The team generates the ideas, so it’s not all on your shoulders. The right people are as concerned about the mission as you are, so you don’t have to spend time keeping them in line. If something goes wrong and you have a great team, you see it as a systems or communications problem rather than a people problem.

Not getting the results you desire? Maybe it’s time for a little self-assessment. What path are you on? You may want to change your leadership focus.

Amazon Wish List

By J.R., 23 August, 2010, 1 Comment

Here is a peak into my Amazon Wish List.  I typically buy a couple books a week but it doesn’t keep pace the books I am adding.  As a result, the list has ballooned to 92 items.  I have a lot of reading to do this year.
