Keep it Real

“I don’t want to start a blog – what in the world would I write?”‘

I hear this all the time and actually think it to myself in those moments when blog worthy thoughts aren’t in the forefront of my mind.  Here is what I had to get through my head…

  1. At this point in my life, I am writing more for my own benefit than for the benefit of others.  As a result, I don’t have to try and impress anyone.  Nothing worse than a guy whose just started trying to tell everyone what to do!
  2. Blogging is an easy way to chronicle my journey.  The journey will consist of good, bad, funny, sad, and everything in between.  I just want to be who I am.  Trust me when I say that people know the difference when you are being real and just putting on a show.
  3. I will write primarily about what God is doing in my life.  What I am learning, thinking, and/or going through.  It’s pretty simple really.  I try not to make it harder than it is.

This isn’t an exhaustive list.  What else would you add?

More than Hello

What does it take to feel and know that you have just experienced an “over the top” experience as a guest.  I want to think about it in the context of church.

  • If you’ve ever visited a church - what was done to make you feel welcome?
  • … Did you ever feel unwelcome?  Why?  (don’t mention any church by name)
  • Forcing you to wear a sombrero on your birthday at Mexican Restaurants might be okay – but probably not at the church.  Have you ever experienced ”guest relations” overkill in the context of church? In what way?

Let me know what you think!

Sunday Rundown

  • Kenny the Truck provided for an eventful AM!  The morning crew stepped up and pulled off a small miracle – and the best part is that I didn’t even find out about it until everything was taken care of :)
  • We have dodged rain almost every week since the beginning.  Today was payback.  A torrential downpour came at the end of the 9:30 leading into the beginning of the 11:00.  It was “big fat stingy rain” if you are keeping score at home.
  • Crazy traffic from the highway in both directions.  One guy got there at 12:30.  Not good when everything is over at 12:00 :)
  • Very good day today!  11:00 gets the crowd energy award for the day.  9:30 had taken it the past 2 weeks.
  • Hung out at the pool for a couple hours and got stung by a bee.  I then proceeded to drown the beast.
  • Headed to Geisha House for dinner.  1/2 price menu EVERY Sunday.

Bikes or Bust

I had a meeting with a couple local principals yesterday to nail down the details for Bikes or Bust 08 coming up in December.

Last year went very well, but it will not even compare.  I am not going to throw out all the details yet – simply because I don’t have them all :)   Just know that we will make a LOT of kids VERY happy this Christmas!

Vacation

Vacation time is here!  I feel a little ahead of myself because I have no idea when or where I am going.  I just know that it needs to happen sooner rather than later!

I either want to go to Vegas or the beach (I can’t decide!) – and I want to make this happen as inexpensively as possible.

Where should we go?  Any ideas?
