  • We kicked off our first Momentum Experience this past week.  Proud of the people taking part in this 8 Week Challenge!
  • Good day on Sunday.  Learning a ton during this season of ministry.
  • You never graduate past grace.
  • Re-read Next Generation Leader this past week.  Very practical book.  It’s an essential for leaders.
  • Had the privilege of speaking to a group of our leaders last night.  I am so proud of them!  God is doing great things in them and through them each and every week!    They inspire me.
  • Does anyone else take pictures of books at Barnes and Noble and then buy them on Amazon?  I do that all the time.
  • Privileged to have fantastic leaders speaking into my life on a continuous basis.  I never want to take that for granted.
  • I’ve been on a bit of a reading frenzy lately.  The more I read – the more I enjoy it.
  • Devin and I are just a couple months away from our 10 Year Anniversary!
  • We (Freedom Church) are teaming up with North Cobb High School for some exciting things in the days ahead.  There is a ton of potential at that school and in this community!  More to come…
  • Pumped about this coming Sunday!  Pray for a life-changing day.  I believe that is what it will be.

Wow!

  • Great day on Sunday at Freedom.
  • Spoke on Giving / Trust and had 35 families sign up to take the 90 Day Giving Challenge.
  • I am excited for them and for all that God is going to do in their lives as a result.
  • I’ve never been more excited about what God is doing at our church and in my life as I am right now.  That is a great thing.
  • We are going to the next level when it comes to investing in Church Planting all across the world.  More to come on that very soon.
  • I have learned some things recently that have transformed my prayer life.  I am asking God for the “impossible” and moving forward with expectancy knowing that God has an incredible plan.
  • Sunday is our last day at Barber before moving back to North Cobb High School on August 8th!  Can’t wait!
  • Don’t miss this Sunday.  Mark it down right now – it will be an incredible day!

Walking in Memphis

By J.R., 28 July, 2009, No Comment

Yesterday we loaded up the staff team from Freedom and headed to west TN for a couple of days.

It’s a strategic location from the standpoint that the dream to begin a church in Acworth started from a house in Millington, TN.   We are going to be loaded down for the majority of the time we are here, but we’ve worked in a little R&R as well.  Very little :)

I absolutely love our team, the people at Freedom Church, and those whom we are striving to reach.  The next 6 months are going to be insane.  Scary actually.  Can’t wait to get back and fill you in…

So ya wanna start a church…

I was reading through Michael’s book, and realized that my friend Tadd and I both had former blog posts that made cameo appearances.  Here’s what I wrote:

Church planting is a cool thing to do.  I agree with that 100%; however, if you are thinking of planting a church, you better have a more definitive reason for doing so than that.

Planting a church because it’s cool? – buy a new car…
…because it is exciting? buy a skydiving session and go jump out of an airplane…
…because you hate the one you’re in?   find a new one and invest your life there…
…because you want to be the “lead” pastor?   get over yourself, repent, and make sure there is more to it than that.

We need more churches and we need more church planters.  Just make sure that it’s not your faulty motives masquerading as a calling from God.  Make sure you were called to do it.   Then, answer the call – just make absolutely sure that is what you are answering.
