If you haven’t read “The Dip” by Seth Godin – you should pick it up . You can knock it out in a few hours and it will give you a good bit of perspective. As the title suggests, it’s all about “The Dip” (or what my friend Pastor Steven Furtick refers to as the Process between the Promise and the Payoff).
The Dip is the combination of bureaucracy and busywork you must deal with in order to get certified in scuba diving.
The Dip is the difference between the easy “beginner” technique and the more useful “expert” approach in skiing or fashion design.
The Dip is the long stretch between beginner’s luck and real accomplishment.
The Dip is the set of artificial screens set up to keep people like you out.
Many people don’t see things through to the end because they give up in the midst of the Dip. Quitting isn’t necessarily the wrong thing to do – just don’t make the decision while you are experiencing the Dip.
