Staying Extreme

IBM has a document known as the “Staying Extreme” manual in which employees immerse themselves.  Here is an interesting paragraph:

Remember, no matter who you work for, they work for you, too.  You aren’t an order taker.  You have a responsibility to develop insights and try to convince your peers, employees, and management to go that way.  You won’t get your way every time, but keeping in the habit of driving the agenda is crucial.  Don’t just wait for someone to tell you what to do.  Understand their business and then tell them what you are going to do to help them win.

I am not a big fan of people who only care about their particular area.  The combined effort of everyone can carry a team much further…faster.
